Don’t You (Forget About Me) (Day Fourteen)

Today started out as a lovely day of riding. I got kind of a late start from Windsor Locks. With the way the forecast is lately, it would behoove me to get an earlier start. I keep ending up riding in the hottest part of the day.  I set my sights on Riverton as a stopping point.

I had some serious climbing today. The hills in Connecticut just keep coming, and I had some scary (but fun) downhill runs. One of them ended up at Barkhampstead Reservoir, which is a lovely spot. I’m told there was recently a tornado there, which I should be able to find on a YouTube video. I pulled up to check out the view and take a few pics, and there was a motorcyclist doing the same thing. I asked if we could switch vehicles, but he didn’t go for it. He said he was on his way to Colorado, and he usually sleeps on his bike. I said, “Wow - I can’t even sleep in a comfy bed!” He lit up a cigarette, which was my cue to skedaddle. I can’t stand the smell of cigarettes. He took off and wished me safe travels.

I continued on to Pleasant Valley and then Riverton, which was my stopping point for the night. What a lovely town. They’re serious about their fishing, and I passed about a half dozen gentlemen fly fishing in the river. Unfortunately, I did not get to witness any of them catching anything.  I picked up a yummy sandwich at the general store and made it my lunch and dinner. The Riverton Inn is for sale, if anyone is interested. It’s a lovely building, and if you buy it, I’d be happy to run it for you. Just let me know!
