Today doesn’t really count, but I thought I’d check in with y’all. I only did about 12 miles, and most of that was because I kept going the wrong way! I was hurting pretty bad after my night in my freezing cold tent last night. I got up at 6:30 and got everything packed. It was good practice! Love those stuff sacks! Rode to downtown Freeport and found a lovely cafe called Isabella’s Sticky Buns. I didn’t have a sticky bun, but the breakfast sandwich I had was excellent. I got into a fascinating conversation with a young man from Danvers, Massachusetts. I’ve been meeting so many nice people. He was traveling, and I recommended the place I stayed at in Newcastle.
I made a reservation at a hotel in Freeport, and set off in the opposite direction. Hey, I had plenty of time...why not? Right? Finally got pointed in the right direction, and they were nice enough to let me check in early. I love my room, it’s warm, it has a bed, and I’ll be watching the Red Sox tonight. Gotta pay closer attention to those weather forecasts!
I’m going completely off my route tomorrow (I know, I know) and I’m going to stay on Route 1 to Portland. Feel free to comment here and tell me if you think I’m being stupid. I can take it. I just don’t want to double back to downtown Freeport and then head up to Sebago Lake, where my chances of finding a hotel are pretty slim. I hope to make it to Kennebunk tomorrow.
