The forecast promised severe thunderstorms today, so I planned an “easy day”. Only 20 miles to Frenchtown. From Phillipsburg to Frenchtown is pretty flat, which certainly helped. But the rain never came (during the day). I started my day with breakfast at Dunkin Donuts (not my favorite, but there was a lack of options). I got everything together and headed back to my route. It was a pretty day and the scenery was beautiful. Riding down River Road was especially gorgeous. I had beautiful forests to my left and a beautiful river to my right.
At one point, I passed a group of people walking. One of them said “Florida?” I replied, “Yes!” (a bit surprised that he had known that). He said, “Yeah!! Looking good!” It definitely cheered me up. I continued to follow my directions and made my way to Milford, arriving right around noon. It was really hot by that point, so a place with air conditioning would be nice. I stopped at a Mexican restaurant with a lovely pregnant waitress named Felicia, and had a taco salad. It was a nice stop.
I had left my bike at a parking lot, and it was still there when I got back (damn...) I headed to Frenchtown. Another lovely town with a bike shop, two hotels with restaurants and bars and a nice cheese shop. Everyone seemed really friendly too. I met a couple who had sunglasses on their dog because they said he had a condition that made his eyes sensitive to sunlight. He seemed pretty happy to have them on, and they wheeled him around in a baby carriage.
Thunderstorms hit later in the evening and my bike got wet but it’s waterproof! Tomorrow is Conshohocken, which is the end of Map Two. On to Map Three which will take me to Richmond, Virginia!
