I missed getting caught in some pretty intense storms yesterday, so my good luck continues! But it’s hot. I mean, really hot. I had breakfast at the hotel this morning, after a kind young man helped me get my trailer down the stairs. He didn’t believe I was really biking to Key West, but his friend convinced him. I was on the road by 7:00.
Today was another Google Map day, but tomorrow I’m back on my route. Google did just fine. I had a whole bunch of street changes, but I kept a close eye on my mileage and never missed a beat. I saw a lot of turtles today. I’m always tempted to move them out of the road, but hopefully they were fine. A lot of the scenery today was a little monotonous, but I made really good time. I was frustrated by the fact that I rode over 35 miles without seeing a single convenience store. Actually, that’s not true. I did see one, but it was permanently closed. Luckily, I had plenty of water so there was no danger there.
A few miles from Plymouth, I stopped at Larry’s Garage, hoping for a cold drink from a vending machine. Larry was so sweet, he gave me two cold bottles of water, and we chatted in his air conditioned office while I charged my phone. He told me that he’d be retiring in a few years, and he was looking forward to traveling. He wished me well, and I thanked him for his awesome hospitality. I really needed that break from the sun.
Thunderstorms had been predicted for this afternoon, but they never came. It was just hot. Have I mentioned it’s hot? I was glad I got an early start, and I arrived in Plymouth at noon. I had a yummy lunch at a Mexican restaurant, and then hid inside to enjoy the air conditioning. Another 40 miles today. I’m going to Bath tomorrow, and I think that’s only about 30 miles. My care package from Chuck should be there when I arrive. I hope! So far, this ride has been just what I needed.
