I had a heck of a time getting out of Daytona this morning. I started my day with coffee at my friend Diane’s house, and I made myself a scrambled egg sandwich. It was so nice to cook for a change, although I struggled with her flat top stove (I’m used to gas). I cleaned up my mess as best I could, and headed out. I was following Google directions to get back on my route, and they sent me in circles, but I finally made it to Big Tree Road.
I made sure I was well stocked with cold water. This part of Florida seems to be pretty bike friendly, and I rode on some nice wide sidewalks. At one point, I stopped in a public gazebo to call Chuck, and a Great Blue Heron flew right by me. A little while after that, I heard music approaching. It was a young man flying down the sidewalk on a Segway One, which I had to Google. It is described as a “one wheel, self-balancing personal transporter”. It was pretty cool to watch, and he looked like he was having fun.
Today was my second 23-mile day in a row, so I’ll have some making up to do! 47 miles tomorrow. I arrived in Edgewater and got myself a yummy sandwich from Subway. I went over to CVS to pick up my prescription that was supposed to be there, but they didn’t know anything about it. Grrrrrrr.... I called my doctor’s office and they were closed. I’ll have to call them on Monday and try to coordinate this again, I guess.
I went for a swim to cool off, but the water in the pools gets pretty hot around here! It felt like a warm bath. I hung out for a while and then went down the road to have dinner at a place called JC’s Riptides. I liked it the minute I walked in. I sat next to a young man who had a platter of shrimp that looked yummy. He said he gets it all the time. I had some tuna and a sample plate of appetizers. It wa all delicious, and the bartender was so nice. I had a really good time chatting with the nice people at the bar, and then I hopped on my bike to head back to the hotel and go to bed. I heard it’s supposed to reach 95 degrees tomorrow, so I want to get an early start. Edgewater was nice, and I’ll definitely be back to JC’s Riptides!
