Peaceful Easy Feeling (Day Sixty-six)

So today was another tough day, before my two days off in Miami. I say two days, because I’m only riding 19 miles tomorrow. I like the way I plan things! But today was really hot. I think I heard someone say it reached 97 degrees. I made some coffee this morning and had a Clif bar. They have these new ones that are stuffed with nut butter, and I just love em. My Google Map told me to turn left, so I did, and then it told me to make a U-turn. Grrrrrr.... I got myself headed in the right direction (south) and pedaled on. There were lots of people out, enjoying the morning, biking, walking their dogs, etc.

I knew the scenery would be cool today. I was biking through South Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Highland Beach, Boca Raton, Hillsboro Beach, Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach and Dania Beach, ending up in Hollywood. After biking for a while, I was a little hungry, so I stopped at a diner. I ordered a single blueberry pancake and 2 eggs, and it was all fantastic. The coffee was really good too! I took some time to let it settle and then headed south. I had to ride on the sidewalk for a while, but then they brought my bike lane back and it was lovely.

I couldn’t believe the houses I passed in Boca Raton. And they all had a gigantic yacht in front of them! I had a little bit of trouble going through construction today, and I think I went over three drawbridges. I have to walk my bike over the grating on the drawbridges because it risks a puncture. I was anxious to get to Hollywood, but I had to make sure I didn’t get overheated, so I took a lot of breaks.

When I went through Fort Lauderdale, I stopped at an absolutely lovely restaurant on the beach for lunch. I will definitely come back there someday, hopefully with a group. The food and service were both excellent. (Much better than Square Grouper)

I arrived in Hollywood at 3:30. I had hoped to get there sooner, but I’ve had the wind in my face a lot lately. The directions were a little tricky, but I managed to find my hotel. It’s only been open for a month, so they’re offering some good rates to attract people. I had a few issues, like I opened the door to the balcony to put my bike out there, and then the door wouldn’t close. They had to call a maintenance guy to come fix it. Everyone here is super nice though, and I just love it. Can’t wait to see Jason tomorrow.
