What a Diff’rence a Day Makes (Day Fifty-three)

I admit it...I needed an attitude adjustment yesterday. I was feeling anxious to get to Florida, and not impressed with the town I was in. I didn’t sleep well, but I got up early and headed south, off my route. Stopped at McDonald’s first for some food and a coffee.

Today was 45 miles, split up on two highways: 121 and 169. Things just felt different today. Maybe it was because I left so early, and it was cool and comfortable. Maybe it was the terrain, which was beautiful, with rolling hills. I looked over and saw my shadow biking down the road, and it looked so cool.

Since traffic was light and I had a nice shoulder, I put my music on, and sometimes that makes all the difference too. I sang, “All bound for mu mu land” “I want you, cause I’m Mr Vain” and yes, even “Kriss Kross’ll make ya JUMP!” It was a 90’s kinda morning. I know, I have weird taste in music. At one point, I almost biked past a gas station, but then I remembered I had a long way to go, and no snacks. I turned around and stocked up on Clif bars. I told the cashier I wasn’t sure what there was between there and Jesup, and she said “A whole lotta nuthin”. My water stayed nice and frozen today, so I was all set there.

Georgia has hills! This is really the first time I’ve had any climbing to do in quite a while. I didn’t mind. My legs are pretty strong now, so it’s no big deal. And they weren’t big hills. I had a lot of truck drivers wave to me today, which was nice. A couple of dogs barked at me, but none of them chased me.

I rode into Jesup, and Google Maps started sending me in circles. I finally made it the motel at 11:00, and they let me check in early. I showered and changed and went into town to see the new Antman movie. I thought it would be another run-of-the-mill, small town movie theater. Nope! Every seat was like a big leather recliner, and there were waiters bringing people food and drinks. I had a great time and loved the movie.

Tomorrow I have 55 miles to get to Folkston, but I’m prepared to get an early start, and get there early like I did today. I’m feeling much better about everything, and I’m going to remember to stop and smell the roses. Some of you have requested pictures of me on this trip, and I do apologize. I haven’t taken that many pictures of myself, and that’s silly I know. Doing this alone makes it difficult sometimes, and my camera with a timer seems to have died on me. I’ll try to get some pics on this last leg of my journey. Promise!
